C1M1 - Breadcrumbs
Run on 3/1/12 with CTB, AAF, OCB
CTB 1-SOD infantry callsign Joker-1 was assigned to search for the flight crew of a downed USAF C130J, now confirmed to have been hit by MANPAD systems in the eastern Hazar-Kot Valley. Three fire teams (two assault and one fire support) successfully eliminated both a mobile AAA vehicle and a cache of air defense missiles identified by early air reconnaissance. Teams then advanced to the crash site and encountered somewhat stiff resistance in the form of technicals and light infantry (local militia). Upon reaching the crash site, teams found no trace of the flight crew. It is believed that due to the heavy enemy presence, it is unlikely they made an escape and instead have been captured by local insurgents. Teams made a quick withdrawal with the extraction point to regroup and await further orders. Callsigns broke all contact with local forces by nightfall. No significant casualties on the side of BLUFOR, estimated 25-30 dead OPFOR.
Local tactics of encirclement were attempted by opposing forces but were identified and dealt with promptly by infantry callsigns. Also of note was the local resistances lack of indirect fire which has featured heavily in recent engagements, although this was the first contact with fighters in this region of any significance (or notable size). A lack of IED's or other traps also suggests fighters were not expecting a western presence in the region, and that the downing of the C130 was more an act of opportunity rather than a planned action.
C1M2 - Little Mice
Run on 3/1/12 with CTB, AAF, OCB
The following morning a search of the area with air reconnaissance suggested that a set of compounds in the western region of the valley would be the most likely hiding place of the captured flight crew. Air recon noted a significant increase in vehicle traffic in the western region, but of more relevance was one compound with multiple vehicles nearby and camouflage netting covering the inner walls. Callsign Joker-1 was tasked with moving to the target compound and attempting to retake the lost pilots, however upon assaulting through a southern checkpoint and searching all compounds in and around the target location no sign of the crew was found. It is now believed they have been taken from this valley to the nearby Clafghan region which offers more in the way of safe houses for the local insurgency. Air recon has since identified the increased vehicle traffic as the most likely method of removing the crew. Infantry callsigns left the region via stolen vehicles and have since been picked up by air assets based in the Clafghan region. No significant casualties on the side of BLUFOR, estimated 40-43 dead OPFOR.
Local numbers swelled compared to the engagements seen the previous night. With a known enemy in the area the militia had a number of light vehicles and other assets brought in to start a significant search, however the early morning timing of the strike caught many of these reinforcements off guard and resulted in lower enemy numbers than anticipated. Again, absence of indirect fire and sustained enemy presence has some analysts worried about where the concentration of fighters has moved to.
C1M3 - The Cheese
Run on 17/1/12 with CTB, OCB, ZSU, VMA
Local air-recon located a heavy AAA gun assembled in the northern valley floor of Clafghan province. Callsign Bishop was assigned to eliminate the AAA threat in keeping with Local Area Command East's (LAC-E) new directive of denying the insurgent forces all possible means of downing ISAF air assets.
Callsign Bishop moved to the location and destroyed the AAA weapon, but not without slight casualties. While holding the position, the callsign came under directed IDF from a mortar base plate to the north of their location. At this time CAS was assigned to the operation, moving quickly to not only eliminate the mortar base plate but also suppress numerous armed militia attempting to encircle callsign Bishop. Intel found at the base plates location lead ground commanders to a warehouse compound, which in turn lead them to the local logistics officer for the insurgent forces. Unfortunately, CAS was not informed of this key leaders location and he was subsequently "plastered" by .30mm cannon fire. All callsigns were air-lifted from the south of the factory complex and returned to their step off location.
Enemy resistance was heavier than previously anticipated, with both precise IDF and HMG emplacements encountered.
