Reminder - server donations needed

Hey everyone,

It's been quite a while since we last ran a donation campaign, however our coffers are almost empty for next month's server costs.

The good news is we've drastically reduced our costing requirements over the past few months. This time last year, our first server cost $475 p/m. We soon outgrew a single server and were running 3 servers less than 3 months later, costing over $1,100 p/m. Since then, we have renegotiated our plans often, haggling down the price, and changed providers 3 times. All of this, was to ensure we could offer our community the most cost effective servers in Australia. To this date, we are very proud of having achieved this.

While demand for DayZ has dropped, we will be cutting down to 1 physical server. When DayZ Stand Alone is released (or an ARMA3 DayZ mod), we can rent more servers again. Having one server will drop our monthly costs to only $250 p/m, and still let us run ANZ #1, ANZ #3, and our ARMA3 server.

So please, dig deep (especially if you have not had a chance to donate but enjoy our servers). Now is also a good time to jump in our forums and offer suggestions on what we need to change while we are consolidating data and reconfiguring a few things.

We will be retaining our first box, which runs ANZ #1, ANZ #3, and ARMA 3 Server #1. ANZ #4 and the ARMA3 Server #2 will be decommissioned, with all data backed up. Our TeamSpeak3 server will also be migrated to a new IP address, but should only require a small amount of down-time.

Remember the supporter edition will include future DLC packs. Also, content that is ported from ARMA2 into ARMA3 "may" require you to own the original ARMA2 content, so if you don't already own every ARMA2 title, then getting ARMAX with the Supporter Edition may be useful in the future.

If you want the best value for money, grab the standard edition. The deluxe edition doesn't really offer much extra, just digital content which you could easily download yourself. The Supporter Edition is for those that want to give a big thumbs up to Bohemia Interactive for always being a supportive developer. It should also ensure they release future DLC packs to satisfy the hordes that purchased the Supporter Edition.

New AUSARMA TeamSpeak server coming soon

To all AUSARMA community members and affiliates,

As most of you will be aware, our primary TeamSpeak3 server was been taken offline recently. This was kindly donated by AEF and Platform Networks since 2009, however that sponsorship is no longer available due to changes in sponsor ownership. The good news however is that AUSARMA is now large enough to sustain it's own TeamSpeak3 server, which we hope to make even bigger and better than it's predecessor.

As we roll out new changes over the coming weeks, we are interested in your feedback (particularly from the clans) and hearing from clan leaders that want to be involved in the process.

While acknowledging the success of our DayZ community, we also want to return to our TeamSpeak roots, so to speak, and ensure the tactical clans have a private and mature place to gather for their gaming sessions, without being disrupted by DayZ players. We will be changing the permissions systems to ensure this, and giving the clans more access to help moderate the server.

Some changes you can expect to see:

Clan members cannot be disturbed by pokes and messages from Guests or DayZ players (only clan recruits and above).

Clan channels can be setup to only allow clan members to join, without needing to set a password.

Clans can add/remove players from their own clan groups and modify their channels.

DayZ players will be able to create temporary groups as before, but only in a specific DayZ group channel.

Each clan will be given scripts and tools to display their own sub-channels (only) on their websites, including online player counts (per clan channel) and server query accounts (for ACRE and forcing TS3 channel connectivity).

New server will use a MySQL database back-end, which will later be extended to integrate with the website and other single-sign-on projects that are under construction.

The new server is expected to be operational in the next 2-3 days after permission testing has been completed. Access tokens will be distributed to Clan Leaders. Your existing channels will also be setup and ready to go on the new server.

This post has been promoted to an article

Release of ARMA 3 DELAYED

In what might be described as an eventful year, Bohemia Interactive has decided to postpone the release of Arma 3. The additional development time enables the project to reach its full potential, with the studio expecting to finalize their release plans in the new year.

Recently, Joris-Jan van ‘t Land, a 10-year veteran of Bohemia Interactive, took over the role of Arma 3 Project Lead from Daniel Musil, who left the studio to pursue other opportunities.

Joris-Jan van ‘t Land: "We’ve been in the process of implementing changes that will help us innovate as a studio under unexpected circumstances - facing problems we simply couldn't have imagined”, referring to the detainment of two Bohemia Interactive employees in Greece. Both were arrested on suspicion of espionage while spending their holiday on Lemnos - an island that served as inspiration for the environment in Arma 3. They have since remained in jail pending legal proceedings."We're still trying to make sense of the situation and hope that our colleagues will be released soon. Although their plight has certainly affected us on a personal level, we continue working on the tasks identified as key to the release of Arma 3."

The new release window of Arma 3 has been set for 2013. Joris-Jan van 't Land: "I hope this update provides some answers regarding the status of the project. We’re currently sorting the specifics so we can deliver a more complete announcement at the beginning of next year."

The studio is also working on a standalone version of DayZ, which is developed by a team led by Dean Hall.

Source: http://www.bistudio....date-for-arma-3
